Reducing emissions: NTS data centre in Bern and Zurich relies on LEAF GTL Heat

"In addition to the proven reduction in emissions (NOx was the driver for us), we also expect benefits in the storage of LEAF GTL in the medium term. The quantities we store are large in relation to our annual consumption (industry-related: in an emergency, our data centres must be able to generate power autonomously in stand-alone mode for several weeks). We expect the risk of fuel - degradation, such as paraffin - precipitation/diesel plague, to be significantly reduced with LEAF GTL.

So far, we have not noticed any disadvantages with our generators (Rolls-Royce Power Systems, Mitsubishi and Perkins) in terms of maintenance (engine oil-quality) due to operation with LEAF GTL.

In addition to the quarterly test runs, our generators are also started for the production of tertiary control energy at the request of Swissgrid.

LEAF GTL has also proven itself in combination with Exomission's primary emission reduction technology, fuel-water-emulsion (KWE), which we have been using for years.
At KWE, up to 30% of water by volume is added to the fuel shortly before combustion, which means we can stay well below the LRV limits at all times. This effect has been further improved with LEAF GTL."
