Idrogen Engiadinais SA was founded in June 2021 with the ambitious goal of making hydrogen from renewable energy a cornerstone of the energy system in the Engadin. The success of this endeavour depends on the sustainable and economic development of the entire value chain, from production to distribution and consumption.
Holistic approach
Idrogen Engiadinais SA pursues a holistic approach and not only optimises individual subsystems, but also plans and operates the entire system of production, logistics and distribution. This comprehensive perspective creates a hydrogen cycle that takes all players into account and functions as an integrated overall system.
Partnerships and expertise
The partnership between local entrepreneurs in the Engadin and H2 Energy AG gives Idrogen Engiadinais SA access to the comprehensive interdisciplinary expertise required to implement and operate the hydrogen - ecosystem. This co-operation ensures that the project is both technically and economically successful.
Activities
Idrogen Engiadinais SA has set itself the goal of developing the entire hydrogen value chain and infrastructure in the Engadin. The focus is on the construction and operation of hydrogen production plants and hydrogen refuelling stations. The company is committed to emission-free and grid-friendly hydrogen ecosystems.
The team, consisting of experts from H2 Energy and local companies, is working to establish strategically, ecologically and economically viable solutions. Idrogen Engiadinais is exclusively committed to the use of renewable energies and their supply and storage.
Market and technology
The production of hydrogen offers an interesting alternative to energy storage. Instead of feeding surplus electricity directly into the grid, it can be split into hydrogen and oxygen and stored for later use as an energy carrier. This allows the fluctuating production of renewable energy sources to be utilised efficiently.
Hydrogen produced from renewable energy can supplement or replace fossil fuels in the transport sector. This contributes to the reduction of CO2- and pollutant emissions. Fuel cell-based applications are 100% emission-free, apart from water vapour.
The project
A central project of Idrogen Engiadinais SA is the construction of a public hydrogen production plant in the "Cho d'Punt" district of Samedan. The hydrogen will be produced using renewable electricity from a hydroelectric power plant in Punt Muragl and transported directly to the hydrogen refuelling station via a pipeline.
This hydrogen filling station will enable lorries, buses and cars to refuel quickly and efficiently, comparable to that of petrol- or diesel vehicles. The range of hydrogen vehicles is around 400 km for commercial vehicles and 600 km for cars. Hydrogen offers enormous potential for reducing CO2-, especially for lorries and buses.
Outlook
Idrogen Engiadinais SA is committed to establishing hydrogen as a key component of a sustainable energy system in the Engadin. With a comprehensive approach, strong partnerships and a clear focus on renewable energies, the company is helping to reduce CO2- emissions and promote a greener future.
